Mother`s day Sunday 13 of May 2018

Mother’s day, the day we celebrate the person that was there for us all our life. It is days were we truly can let our mums know how much they are appreciated and cared for. Our mum teaches us how to nurture and how to love. Through her guidance we as individuals learn how to be empathetic and sympathetic to those around us. Mums also have the innate ability to make everything alright.

We know that being a mum can be a thankless job, it is work, with long hours, no vacations and no pay. But yet every mum will tell you that it is the most rewarding job. They will gladly sacrifice themselves for their children. Hence, the greatest reward for all they have done is seeing their children turn into happy successful adults. Therefore, this day is so important for mums to be recognised for what they have done for us.

However, it makes this day a very sad day when the disconnection from the family has occurred. When there is no person celebrating this day with mum. When all mum has are memories.

We at iCAN will try to bring some smiles back to some of the lonely mums in nursing homes. On mother’s day we will visit mothers that have nobody visiting them and hand out a little present trying to make them feel special on this day.

If you would like to help us bring some smiles to a mum on mother’s day please contact us by phone or email.

Gifts are ready for Mother`s Day

As Mother`s Day can be a very special day for some,  we have arranged with the Bundaleer Lodge Nursing Home Aged Care in Ipswich to hand out some gifts to the the lovely ladies as in appreciation for mother`s day. We the members of iCAN do care about the community of Ipswich and this is our way we thank people for the time and effort they have  put back into our community .

We say thank you.

And a big thank you to Bundaleer Lodge staff for allowing our members handing out these gifts.

Gathering Of The Clans And Queensland Bagpipe Championships

The Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band was formed in 1909 by the Ipswich Caledonian Society with aims to encourage the music, customs and traditions of the great highland bagpipe. It was also to serve as a social organisation, and provide what would best be described as ‘a helping hand’ to migrating Scottish families.

Since this time the band has continued to embody these values as both a social band and in competitions, culminating in their win of at the New Zealand Championships in 2005. They have also toured extensively, travelling to France in 2006 for the Interceltique Festival de Lorient, the largest Celtic festival in the world, and to Russia in 2007 for the Moscow International Tattoo.

Under the guidance of Pipe Major Rod Smith and Drum Sergeant Fiona Brown, the band has re entered the competition scene, taking a respectable 13th place overall and winning the Grade 4 street march at the 2016 Australian Pipe Band Championships. With the creation of the Greater Ipswich College of Piping and Drumming, the band is taking steps to not only bolster its own numbers and sustain its longevity, but to provide a much greater access to learning pipes and drums for young children and strengthen the culture of pipe bands throughout South-East Queensland.

iCAN Members Day Out at Gathering Of The Clans And Queensland Bagpipe Championships

On the 6 of June 2018 what a great day we all had at the Gathering of the Clans in Ipswich at Limestone Park. On the day we had  iCAN members turn up was Conny, Robyn, Bev, Mike Gary & Chris. While we were at this event we were doing a raffle to raise some money and also sellin bottle water and bags of lollies.  On this day we got to  meet a lot of friendly members of the public  and had a good old chat to some . While  being at Gathering of the Clans we got to see Bagpipe bands playing as well a few dancers too. To see something like this in Ipswich was one of best experience we have all seen . We had very large crowd throughout most of the day and the weather held off with the rain as it was  a warm day.
